About the Board

The Advisory Board is the primary external advisory body for the research establishment of Transport and Telecommunication Institute. The Board is charged with providing input and advice related to the scientific and research agenda, management, and funding for research of the Institute. Board members transmit their findings to the Vice-Rector for Science and Development Affairs.

The main role of the Board is to:

  • Reviewing research activities, consulting on global and strategic directions of research
  • Provide insights on the key developments and events based on individual member’s knowledge
  • Give advice on the priority issues on which to engage and how best might the Institute exert influence
  • Act as ambassadors for the Institute at the international level
  • Propose funding opportunities which the Institute should pursue and advice on how to realise those potential opportunities

The Board Members

Prof. Dr. Nicos Komninos (Greece)

Professor Emeritus of Urban Development and Innovation Policy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Greece and CEO of Intelspace Technologies;  founder and director of the Urban and Regional Innovation Research (URENIO) and has coordinated more than a hundred research projects under the European CIP, FP and Territorial Cooperation Programmes (Interreg, SEE, MED). He has been honoured with the Excellence and Innovation Award of Aristotle University for achievements in competitive research. He took part in the development of smart cities, technology parks, and innovation strategies in most EU countries; in UNIDO activities on regional innovation in developing countries; in the OECD innovation strategy; and actually in the assessment of Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) across many regions of Europe.

Main areas of research and expertise:

  • City and regional strategic planning
  • Intelligent cities / smart cities design and development
  • Technology transfer, collaborative new product development, digital marketplaces; smart and user-driven innovation ecosystems; living labs; future Internet technologies.
  • Innovation systems analysis and strategy, smart specialization strategies (RIS3); new product development methodologies and tools; innovation performance.

Prof. Dr. Andres Monzon De Caceres(Spain)

He has participated in 66 research projects, 35 as director. Among them 17 were international projects, mainly EU FP projects. Some of the recent projects related to Urban Mobility are EBSF (European Bus System of the Future), ICT-Emissions (Development of a methodology and tool to evaluate the impact of ICT measures on urban car transport emissions), City-Hub (Integrated Design of Urban Interchanges) and TRANSBICI (Travel Behaviour Analysis for Modelling the potential use of bicycle: transition towards a cycling city).

He has been elected new academic co-Charmain for the ERTRAC WG on Urban Mobility.

Main areas of research and expertise:

  • Sustainable Transportation Planning, Transport Demand Management and Urban Public Transportation.
