This year marks a monumental milestone for TSI University as we proudly celebrate our 25th anniversary. From our complex beginnings to becoming one of the leading private tech universities in the Baltic region, our journey has been defined by innovation, academic and research excellence, and impactful global partnerships.
EU and Global Recognition
TSI’s accomplishments were acknowledged internationally in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 as the only private university in Latvia to be included. TSI ranked first in Latvia for Reducing Inequalities and second for Quality Education.
TSI is actively engaged in EU projects such as Horizon 2020, Interreg Central Baltic, Erasmus+, etc., contributing to the advancement of education and promoting international knowledge exchange.
Academic Milestones
We celebrated the first-ever awarding of double degree diplomas in partnership with UWE Bristol. Graduates from our three double degree programmes now hold both TSI and UWE Bristol degrees, marking a significant step in international academic collaboration.
Our Bachelor’s programme in Computer Science has been launched in an innovative blended learning format. This combines flexible independent study with live online interactions, enabling students worldwide to access high-quality education at their own pace.
We have successfully accredited our fourth study field in transport services, for the maximum term of six years for both study programmes. This accomplishment underscores our commitment to maintaining updated, industry-relevant programmes across all study directions.
In 2024, a PhD school was established, opening doors to advanced research opportunities and academic growth. Two PhD dissertations in Telematics and Logistics were also successfully defended.
By the decision of the state Study Quality Commission, dated on November 27, 2024, TSI was granted the status of University of Applied Science.
Cutting-edge Research and Facilities
We opened a unique AdditiveLab – the only lab in Latvia and the Baltics specializing in wire additive manufacturing (WAM) and 3D metal printing technologies. AdditiveLab provides cutting-edge solutions for industries such as transport, aerospace, and manufacturing, supports innovation from conception to global implementation, and is open to new collaborative opportunities.
TSI researchers significantly increase the quality of their research outputs by publishing papers in Q1 and Q2 journals, organizing special sessions devoted to AI in Education and Research in Transportation in the frame of the largest European Conference Transport Research Arena—TRA 2024 (Dublin, Ireland), etc.
International Partnerships
This year, TSI has significantly expanded its global collaborations, establishing or further enhancing strategic partnerships with Magnetic MRO, the Civil Aviation Academy of Kazakhstan, and the National Aviation Academy in Baku, advancing aviation education and research. We have increased possibilities for PhD research collaboration and networking with leading EU entities, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas/ Hellenic Institute of Transport, Thessaloniki, Greece, and the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, Germany. Additionally, we have expanded our cooperation with French universities and initiated numerous other unique and impactful projects with academic institutions worldwide.
For the first time, TSI organized Erasmus Week, devoted to the impact of AI on higher education, exploring myths, challenges, and solutions in various collaborative discussions.
A Dynamic and Enriching Environment
Exclusive guest lectures and practical learning experiences have equipped students with valuable insights and perspectives, preparing them for success in a globalized world. For the second year, the collaboration between ABSL Latvia and TSI has provided students with exceptional opportunities to engage with guest lectures delivered by industry-leading professionals. Inspired by industry, our students hosted the TSI Metaverse Evening with staff and special guests, showcasing the use of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR).
Celebrating Excellence
In September 2024, we had an amazing festival event to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We welcomed over 200 guests, including partners from academia, industry, and government representatives. More than 30 TSI colleagues were honored with special TSI awards for their contributions.
The Minister for Transport, Kaspars Briskens, honored Professor Irina Yatskiv and Professor Aleksandrs Grakovskis with certificates of appreciation, acknowledging their significant contributions to education and research. Professor Dr. sc. ing. Irina Yatskiv was further distinguished with the Cabinet of Ministers’ Certificate of Appreciation for her longstanding and significant contributions to developing higher education and research in the transport field in Latvia.
The Vision of the Future
As we reflect on these accomplishments, we also look forward to shaping a brighter future by launching our next five-year strategy, focusing on innovation, research, and global impact to empower students and foster partnerships. Additionally, we aim to expand our network of collaborations, enriching TSI’s environment with diverse perspectives, cultural exchange, and dynamic opportunities for cooperation.
