Annotation | This is a generic module that is used for a variety of programmes, the programme director (or delegated person) will advise students on the appropriate master thesis to ensure that they relate to the relevant programme.
The study in the frame of the program is concluded with the preparation of the master thesis and its defence. The thesis should demonstrate student readiness for scientific thinking, command of research methods, conversance with the topic of the thesis, and the ability for scientific communication. The thesis should be completed and defended individually by each student. Preparing the thesis students should follow TSI guidelines and recommendations published in e.tsi.lv section: Information for Final Year Students. The guidelines describe formal requirements and the procedures, which students should follow during the preparation of the thesis. The thesis is prepared under the supervision of the faculty academic staff, with the possibility to involve the consultant. The role of the supervisor is to provide individual consultation and guide thesis preparation workflow. During the master thesis preparation term, several seminars will be provided to the students, which include: a seminar about thesis formatting issues and requirements, use of library services, ethical aspects and plagiarism issues. |
Aim | Preparing and defending master thesis to enable students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in conducting research on the selected topic by systematizing existing knowledge about the problem, critical evaluation of existing solution, new solution proposal and its evaluation. |

Assessment Method | The assessment of the master thesis will be completed following official TSI regulations and procedures. The supervisor of the master thesis completes the overview of the prepared master thesis evaluating the content of the master thesis, conclusions, use of bibliography, following schedule, formatting, and following instructions of the supervisor. In addition, the supervisor provides comments and feedback about the master thesis. The evaluation from the supervisor is based on grading rubrics. Officially assigned reviewer prepares the review and evaluates the prepared thesis based on a set of criteria, including goal hypothesis/tasks, use of bibliography, methodology/methods, results analysis, conclusions, and style. Assessment of each criteria, including overall grading, is done based on the grading rubric. During the defence, students should present his/her research to the board, and answer questions from reviewers and board members. The overall assessment is completed following official procedure. |
Independent study | In the frame of the master thesis students independently conducts the research on the selected topic under the supervision of the assigned academic staff. The supervisor provides individual consultation to the student on continuous bases, monitors student progress and provides feedback and recommendations about the completed phases of the work. |
