The 24th International Conference on Reliability and Statistics in Transportation and Communication, hosted by TSI, was held from September 25 to 28. This year’s theme of the conference was “Human Sustainability and Resilience in the Digital Age: Using Tech Innovation and Smart Algorithms”.
The international conference was part of the Erasmus+ International Week, bringing together leading researchers, PhD students, industry experts, educators, and distinguished guests from various fields. The event offered a series of insightful presentations and tutorials, promoting collaboration and the exchange of knowledge. Participants from 21 countries online and in-person, engaged with key topics, including artificial intelligence and data science, machine learning, transport systems and sustainability, logistics networks and modern technologies, aviation, maritime, digital economy, and education. As well as part of the conference, participants were given the opportunity to sightsee Riga and learn about its history and explore the beauty of Latvia through an organised tour to one of the most beautiful cities – Sigulda.
The conference showcased distinguished keynote speakers presenting captivating topics – Prof. Andres Monzon (Spain) with the topic “Role of Real-Time Information for Sustainable Transport Choices,” Prof. Cristina Pronello (Italy) on “Policies to Meet the Needs of Workers Following the Digitalisation and Automation of Transport,” Prof. Guido Gentile (Italy) on “Algorithms in Traffic Assignment and Fixed Point Problems,” and Prof. Eftihia Nathanail (Greece) on “Big Data: The Emerging Asset for Sustainable Transportation Planning and Mobility Management.“
A special highlight of the conference was a tutorial led by the honoured guest Ross McKeand, Senior Vice President at Nordic Aviation Capital. In his session, titled “The Correct Ingredients for a Successful Aircraft”, McKeand shared valuable insights drawn from his extensive experience in the aviation industry. His presentation provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the current air transport market trends, the factors that define the value of commercial aircraft, as well as an outlook for the potential vectors of technological developments. Following this, Professor Dmitry Pavlyk, TSI professor and Leader of the Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence research cluster, delivered a lecture on “Responsible AI in Science at TSI,” exploring the role of AI in modern research and its applications.
Another important event in the frame of the conference was the celebration of the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) ‘s 25th anniversary. To mark this significant milestone, a gala dinner was held in honour of TSI’s achievements and contributions to education and research over the past quarter-century. The gala provided a memorable evening of networking, fine dining, and celebrations.
The conference blended academic discourse with cultural exploration and festive celebration, making it an unforgettable experience for all attendees!
