On Thursday, January 16, the Saeima – the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia, confirmed the new members of the Council of Higher Education (AIP), and we are proud to announce that the Rector of the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI), Ph.D.sc.pol. Juris Kanels, has been elected as a member of the AIP. J. Kanels was delegated to this position by the Association of Private Universities, and it is the first time a representative from TSI has become a member of the Council of Higher Education.
The mission of the AIP is to address the issues of the prospective development of higher education in Latvia – to develop the national strategy for higher education, providing for the development of both state-founded and privately established higher education institutions and promoting equal and balanced development of all types of higher education institutions, as well as higher academic and professional education. The Council also implements cooperation among universities, colleges, state institutions, and society in the development of higher education, supervises the quality of higher education in the country, develops proposals on the number of state-funded students in each field, provides the government with an opinion on the state budget project for university funding, and performs other tasks.
