TSI welcomes both the Ambassador and the Honorary Consul of Mexico

TSI was honoured to welcome Mr. Alejandro Alday, the Ambassador of Mexico to Sweden, Latvia, and Lithuania, accompanied by Honorary Consul Mr. Carlos Arredondo, for their first official visit to the university.

The distinguished guests were welcomed by the TSI Board – Professor Irina Yatskiv, Chairwoman of the university, Dr. Juris Kanels, Rector, and Professor Emmanuel Merchán, Dean of the Engineering Faculty. Professor Merchán, a prominent Mexican academic in a leadership role at TSI, facilitated this key diplomatic visit, strengthening ties between Latvian and Mexican academic communities.

During the meeting, Dr. Kanels provided a comprehensive presentation of the university’s academic programs and research capabilities. Ambassador Mr. Alday expressed his primary objective of strengthening academic and research partnerships between TSI and Mexican universities, emphasizing the unique opportunity presented by having Mexican representation in TSI’s leadership.

The delegation toured various facilities, showing particular interest in the Aviation and Robotics Centers. A highlight of the visit was their stop at the Additive Lab, where they met with Jesus Gudiño from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional México. Mr. Gudiño represents a successful example of existing academic cooperation, being the first exchange student conducting research as part of his PhD studies in Engineering of Robotics and Mechatronic Systems under the supervision of Professor Merchán. His current research focuses on Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing technologies.

This inaugural visit by the Mexican Ambassador to TSI marks a significant milestone in establishing stronger academic ties between Latvia and Mexico. It opens a wide range of opportunities for student and faculty exchange programs, joint research initiatives, academic collaboration projects, knowledge and technology transfer, and cultural exchange activities.
