Alternative energy sources in Latvia and their impact on social well-being.

Rapid climate change as well as the geopolitical situation in the world are encouraging the spread and development of "green" energy sources not only at a national level but also in the household sector. This is why alternative energy sources have become increasingly popular in recent years. This study shows the use of alternative energy sources in Latvia and the Baltic States, their patterns, and development opportunities. The results of the analysis of the statistical databases of the Baltic countries show the trends towards alternative energy sources in recent years. The study has highlighted the importance of improving the energy efficiency of buildings alongside the increasing trend towards alternative energy sources and the support programs that have been set up for this purpose. This Research is based on plans, regulations, and laws to increase the use of alternative energy sources and reduce gas emissions. This study evaluates the impact of the development and deployment of alternative energy sources on households and the benefits they can gain.

Development of Cross-Platform Mobile Application “Health Care for Pets”

The aim of this work was to develop a cross-platform mobile application, “Health Care for Pets,” with the main objective of providing pet owners a comprehensive, user-friendly tool for effective pet care.In the course of the work, an analysis of the subject area was conducted, and existing analogues were analysed. The system and functional requirements, as well as the main users for the application, were identified. Based on the analysis and requirements, the application, server, data access component and database were designed. The system was implemented using Visual Studio, in the C# programming language. The developed application was tested in the final stage. The application created during the bachelor's thesis meets all the requirements.

Justification of additional costs and the possibility of downtime in the land transport company

In the literature review of the bachelor's thesis, the types of costs in a company are analyzed and how they could affect the company overall in terms of both costs and functionality. Using transport tariffs, the costs of providing transportation services were calculated and a price was offered to the client. Additional costs and downtime types were analyzed and their impact on the company was assessed. The theoretical analysis of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies was conducted to further apply them to reduce additional costs and downtime. In the second part, the additional costs and downtime factors of the company DSV Latvia and the extent of their impact were described and analyzed. The third part analyzes the application of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies in the company DSV Latvia and how significantly they can help reduce additional costs and downtime.

Improving the accuracy of optical character recognition of stone engravings using image pre-processing methods

This study focuses on the development of preprocessing methods to improve the accuracy of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for stone engravings. The primary goal is to enhance the precision of widely used OCR tools, particularly for texts engraved on stone surfaces, which present unique challenges that differ from traditional OCR applications. Emphasis is placed on developing image preprocessing methods as a software product. Customized image manipulation scripts were used to improve recognition accuracy and address issues such as contrast, alignment, noise, and resolution. The preprocessing stage was integrated into the workflow designed for image transformation before OCR processing. Subsequently, the recognition improvements were evaluated based on text similarity metrics analysis. Iterative text recognition and repeated recognition of images after applying preprocessing demonstrated significant improvements in OCR accuracy. This work provides a solid foundation for further enhancement of OCR workflows by employing adaptable preprocessing techniques specifically designed for particular problem areas, achieving higher precision in text recognition.

Increasing the efficiency of the company as a result of the organization of optimal procurement procedures

The purpose of the study is to explore and analyse the organisations procurement procedures, their efficiency and the possibilities for increasing it in the company “MKStar”.To achieve the purpose of the Bachelor's work, the author set out the following tasks: 1) Explore theoretical aspects of procurement procedures for improving efficiency. 2) Analyse the market trends of a particular sector. 3) To examine the subject company and its procurement procedures. 4) To perform an analysis of procurement procedures of the company. 5) To draw conclusions and proposals on increasing the efficiency of the company based on the results of the study. The study used these data collection methods: document analysis, semi-structured expert interviews and secondary data analysis. In the work, the author used purchasing analysis methods such as: ''Inventory Turnover'', ''Lean'' and the ''Kralyk Matrix''.The main results of the work relate to joint cooperation between the supplier of raw materials. One way to optimize collaboration is to integrate supplier and buyer purchasing software. One of the problems identified in the work is the fragmentation of suppliers warehouses, which consequently affects the availability of raw materials.
