Transport and Telecommunication Institute becomes the first partner in Latvia of the global online learning platform «Coursera»

Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) is the first higher education institution in Latvia that has signed a partnership agreement with the global online learning platform «Coursera«. Thanks to this cooperation, TSI students and academic staff will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills and gain experience from highly recognized international academic programs of world-class universities and colleges offered by «Coursera», including Yale University, Imperial College London, and Johns Hopkins University.

By concluding an agreement with «Coursera», TSI ensures the approbation of the mixed learning approach — every student and teacher has access to study courses and materials developed by leading and highly recognized universities and colleges. The main goal is to develop a more personalized approach to each student, giving students the opportunity to use the best worldwide practices. Furthermore, professors will be able to develop their study course programmes in engineering and business, which will be accessible to anyone on the «Coursera» platform. The benefit of a partnership with «Coursera» is the added value to already existing study programmes — students have the opportunity to understand their chosen industry better. TSI students will be able to receive «Coursera» certificates from the best universities and companies as an additional benefit during their studies.

«The Institute of Transport and Telecommunication, by starting cooperation with the international study platform «Coursera», confirms its independent progress towards ensuring high study quality. We can, without a doubt, claim that TSI is in the leading position among Latvian universities in acquiring new, modern study forms, methods, and opportunities for preparing 21st-century professionals,» about the cooperation with «Coursera» says TSI’s Rector and Member of the Executive Board, Ph.D.sc.pol. Juris Kanels

«The «Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence» specialization of the TSI Master of Computer Science study programme attracts professionals from different industries – logistics, software development, fintech, and public administration. The wide entry to the programme requires a special approach to leveling student knowledge and skills, in particular – programming skills. Short Coursera courses (like Python Data Structures) allow us to enhance specific students’ skills that are required for the successful completion of the core master programme and to make the education process more flexible and personalized,» Director of the Master programme “Double degree in Computer Science: Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence”, Professor, Dr. sc. ing.  Dmitry Pavlyuk shares his view about the added value of Coursera in the learning process.

Partnership with «Coursera» provides opportunities in the use of technology and the promotion of innovations, thus strengthening the TSI brand among Latvian universities.

Hadi Moussa, General Manager for EMEA, Coursera, said: “With universities intensifying their efforts to prepare students for the rapidly-changing digital economy, collaborating to scale up the delivery of high-demand technology, business, and data science skills is essential. We are pleased to partner with TSI to expand and enhance their provision of blended learning modalities, offering their students and staff unprecedented access to job-relevant learning content.”
